In the first Star Trek movie by J.J. Abrams, the plot is loosely based on the original storyline but depicts an alternative reality and offers what I thought was a pretty good twist, done in the spirit of the original Star Trek.
The villain’s identity has not been yet been revealed in Star Trek Into Darkness, but it has been rumored that Benedict Cumberbatch could be playing Khan from The Wrath of Khan as made infamous by Ricardo Montalban. (arguably one of, if not the best Star Trek Film until now) which would be an excellent storyline to play on.
But as many Trekkies are already noticing, Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve sure do look a lot like Sally Kellerman as Dr Elizabeth Dehner and Gary Lockwood as Lt. Commander Gary Mitchel in the original Star Trek TV series episode, Where No Man Has Gone Before, by creator Gene Roddenberry.
Star Trek more then ever is the quintessential Sci-Fi space adventure film by which all other sci-fi adventure films will be compared to for years to come and an incredible rebirth to the franchise and the ongoing search for new life and new civilizations.
