Deserving Actresses Who Missed the Academys

judy-garland

Judy Garland can be considered Hollywood’s most hard working actress. Given an acting career that spanned over four decades, she has acted in almost forty movies. No one can forget her role as the boisterous Dorothy in “The Wizard Of OZ” or her defining role in “Meet me In St. Louis”. Although she has been nominated a numerous number of times by the Academy Association, she has never won a single Oscar. Her hit recordings included, “Dear Mr. Gable: You Made Me Love You”, “The Trolley Song”, “For Me And My Gal”, and “Zing! Went The Strings Of My Heart”.

Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore is another actress who has been repeatedly left out from winning an Oscar. Here are some of her defining roles that she was nominated for:

2003, Best Actress in a Leading Role – as Cathy Whitaker in Far from Heaven. Lost Nicole Kidman as Virginia Woolf in The Hours.

2003, Best Actress in a Supporting Role – as Laura Brown in The Hours. Lost to Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma Kelly in Chicago.

2000, Actress in a Leading Role – as Sarah Miles in The End of the Affair. Lost to Hilary Swank as Brandon Teena in Boys Don’t Cry.

1998, Best Actress in a Supporting Role – as Amber Waves in Boogie Nights. Lost to Kim Basinger as Lynn Bracken in L.A. Confidential

Glenn Close

None of us can forget Glenn Close in her infamous role in “Fatal Attraction” alongside Michael Douglas. Her capacity to portray an evil character in every such role she gets cannot be replaced by anyone else. Here again we see all her close calls that she had with the Academy Awards:

1989, Best Actress in a Leading Role – as Marquise Isabelle de Merteuil in Dangerous Liaisons. Lost to Jody Foster as Sarah Tobias in The Accused.

1988, Best Actress in a Leading Role – as Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction. Lost to Cher as Loretta Castorini in Moonstruck.

1985, Best Actress in a Supporting Role – as Iris Gaines in The Natural. Lost to Peggy Ashcroft as Mrs. Moore in A Passage to India.

1984, Best Actress in a Supporting Role – as Sarah Cooper in The Big Chill. Lost to Linda Hunt as Billy Kwan in The Year of Living Dangerously.

1983, Best Actress in a Supporting Role – as Jenny Fields in The World According to Garp. Lost to Jessica Lange in Tootsie.

Greta-Garbo

Greta Garbo has always been a favorite of mine. She is the single most beautiful actress who managed to bring Poise and Panache to the silver screen. However she lost out on acting when the talkies had replaced silent movies. Such a shame.
